Firstly, the cut-outs were too large to work with in close proximity. Secondly, McLaren and Lambart found the film boring. In the case of RYTHMETIC, they made the cut-outs much smaller and increased the numbers to “1 to 10”. They consequently had much more opportunity in the creation of what McLaren said was a film inspired by crosswords.
