FI13027.043 A blurr test on hi-con. What we used to do was shoot optical tests on black and white hi-con. The reason was that in the “film era” one would shoot something but would have to wait 24 hours to see the results. We should shoot tests on hi-con in the optical printer, because hi-cons could be developed in 20 minutes. We would look at the test and could quickly arrive at a decision. Hi-con is a very thin film and the image was really akin to a line drawing. In other words, we were able to read the motion. One would not use a hi-con to shoot, for example, textures or backgrounds. We could make, say, four prints and sandwich them in the moviola in different configurations. We could, therefore, get an idea of how a sequence based upon several superimpositions would look (and it was great fun to do).
