The whole idea of backgrounds was dropped after we did tests for both aesthetic reasons and because there would have been untold difficulties in marrying the motion of the dancers to the potential motion of the backgrounds. Also, we just had this feeling that the backgrounds were a foreign element, even though as artworks in their own right, they were frequently interesting.
